Helping customers find a highly scalable, low-cost collaboration platform for enterprise-wide use, Sun Microsystems, Inc., and Oracle today announced exceptional performance achieved during a series of scalability tests. Together, the Oracle® and Sun solution demonstrates how well Oracle Collaboration Suite running on the Solaris™ Operating System performs to meet the collaboration needs of large organizations with tens of thousands of users.

The tests running Oracle Collaboration Suite on two Sun Fire™ systems, the Solaris OS, and Sun StorEdge™ storage arrays scaled to support more than 50,000 users performing typical daily collaboration operations for a duration of eight hours. Marking the first time an integrated collaboration suite with email, calendaring, web conferencing and content management capabilities scaled to this level—619,894 collaboration operations per hour—on a single instance. Today’s results highlight Sun and Oracle’s ability to scale and clearly position the joint offering as a powerful solution for large organizations. These performance tests give customers the opportunity to see how the solution would perform under real-world conditions in order to plan configuration requirements and system sizing. As a result of the testing, customers can now more accurately size their collaboration solutions, while obtaining the functionality needed for their critical collaboration needs. The Oracle Collaboration Suite Benchmark (OCSB) test measures the scalability and performance of the suite consisting of Oracle’s Email, Files Online, Calendar and Web Conferencing products. The focus of the test is on server performance for enterprise deployments.

Oracle Collaboration Suite on Sun Fire systems provide organizations with a highly scalable, reliable and secure collaboration solution. Built on the Oracle Database and Oracle Application Server, Oracle Collaboration Suite has the ability to scale and manage large amounts of data for large scale enterprise-wide deployment. When Sun and Oracle Collaboration Suite are combined, the scalability and performance is outstanding.

The benchmark was generated in the Sun Oracle Applications Technology Center located in Menlo Park, Calif., to emulate typical server performance for enterprise collaborations.
