Eastman Kodak Company today announced the addition of several image-processing enhancements to its industry-leading KODAK i600 and i800 Series Scanners.

“Kodak’s ability to deliver the broadest portfolio of products and services in the industry is grounded in the fact that we listen to the wants and needs of our customers,” said Lois Powell, director, Production Capture Segment, Kodak’s document imaging business. “The customer-requested enhancements to the i600 and i800 Series that are now available will bolster the industry-leading position of these two scanner lines.”

The KODAK i600 Series is a line of three mid-volume production scanners that were launched in 2004. The KODAK i800 Series consists of four models in the high-volume production segment. Kodak holds the No. 1 market share position in both segments worldwide, according to market analysts.

Among the image-processing features Kodak is adding to all three models in the i600 Series are:
—Independent and customizable Ultrasonic Multi-feed Document Detection – This feature enables scanner operators to use a preset mode or customize modes that enable built-in ultrasonic multi-feed detection sensors to work together or independently. This facilitates even more accurate detection of double document feeds.
—Auto-color detection – This enhancement enables the scanner to detect color documents within a batch and automatically scan them in color, without slowing down or requiring operators to pre-select color scanning or add toggle patches during batch preparation.
—Increased document-scanning length – With this feature, the maximum document length that can be scanned increases from 26 inches to 34 inches.

Meanwhile, Kodak is adding grayscale output to its two color-capable models in the i800 Series – the KODAK i820 and i840. Other new features added to the i820 and i840 include improved brightness and contrast control, and grayscale- and color-on-the-fly scanning with the use of a toggle patch.

These broadened capabilities for the i820 and i840 models come on the heels of last year’s addition of Perfect Page Scanning with iThresholding to the entire i800 line.

All of the new features described above, as well as others, are available via free firmware downloads to current owners of i600 and i800 Series Scanners at www.kodak.com/go/disupport.

The i800 Series download is available immediately; the i600 Series download will be available March 31. Newly shipped i600 and i800 Series Scanners will offer all of these functions with no changes in individual suggested retail prices.
