Sony’s “Next Generation Portable” PlayStation, the successor to the PSP, was shown playing versions of PlayStation 3 games at its official presentation, including Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, and even some upcoming titles not yet released on the home console.
New titles Gravity Daze, Reality Fighters, Smart As, Broken and Little Deviants were also introduce
Little Deviants was brought in to further demonstrate the rear touchpad’s relevance, as pokes and drags deformed a play area shown on-screen, herding furry creatures to and fro.
A new entry to the Hot Shots Golf / Everybody’s Golf series was shown under its Japanese name, Minna No Golf Next.
It was used first as an example of how the NGP keeps friends up to date with each other’s exploits, then as an application of the device’s motion sensor with console movements panning around a golf course.
Capcom’s Monster Hunter Third and Lost Planet 2 were given run-outs, followed by cinematics from Metal Gear Solid 4, the upcoming Yakuza: Of The End, and a work-in-progress build of Dynasty Warriors.
The Call of Duty series was name-dropped before the audience heard about how the NGP’s data connections are used to tell a player which games are most popular in his or her locality.
Dungeon Defenders, already available on iOS and Android and coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, was shown running on the NGP, as was an advanced version of the iPhone / iPad Epic Citadel demo.
