Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced its continued support for DB2 Universal Database for z/OS with a comprehensive suite of tightly integrated Unicenter database products that help customers reduce the cost and complexity of managing large scale DB2 environments.

Unicenter Database Management r11 for DB2 Universal Database (UDB) for z/OS V8, currently in beta release, features 33 tightly integrated products that help protect DB2 data, improve response time and increase system availability. It is comprised of three suites – Unicenter Database Performance Management, Unicenter Database Backup and Recovery, and Unicenter Database Administration – that can be licensed separately or together.

“Siemens Medical Solutions operates the healthcare industry’s most sophisticated network operations center and is the leading ASP for remote hosting of healthcare applications,” said Joe Carola, manager of database administration, IT division, Siemens Medical Solutions. “As a result, we deliver state-of-the-art security, scalability, availability, performance and responsiveness to more than 1,000 remotely hosted customers. Our DB2 environment is large, complex and absolutely critical to our business and our customers’ IT operations around the clock. As a member of IBM’s DB2 UDB for z/OS V8 Early Support Program, it was essential for us that CA provide immediate and robust support for our next-generation database platform – which is exactly what we got with their latest suite of Unicenter products.”

*Comprehensive LOB (Large Object) management that extends the capabilities of IBM’s DB2 utilities by enabling the automated loading and unloading of LOBs greater than 32K.

*Unicode support across the Unicenter Database Administration suite for support of multilingual environments.

*Support for all 4096 DB2 partitions throughout the Unicenter Database Backup and Recovery suite, enabling enhanced management of discrete data sets and accelerated data transfer in large and complex data warehousing environments.

*Support for high-transaction environments, including 10,000 DB2 archive logs to ensure high-speed recovery of critical data.

“CA has consistently kept pace with IBM’s z/OS platform to meet the evolving needs of our worldwide customer base,” said Richard Bolesta, vice president of database management at CA. “CA’s Unicenter Database Management for DB2 UDB for z/OS V8 is a sophisticated and powerful set of products that enables IT organizations to optimize the performance and availability of their applications with less time and effort than ever before.”
