Computer Associates International, Inc. today announced the general availability of Unicenter Desktop DNA r11, its state-of-the-art PC management solution. By further streamlining desktop upgrade and support processes, the new version can significantly reduce the total cost of PC ownership while ensuring maximum end-user productivity.

When PCs are upgraded, unique end-user information — including application settings, system settings, user profiles and data — must be transferred to ensure uninterrupted productivity. Unicenter Desktop DNA automates the management, transfer and maintenance of this end-user information, thereby simplifying upgrade/replacement processes and reducing costs. The ability to replicate desktop configurations easily also reduces support costs and ensures end-user productivity so that desktop investments yield maximum return.

“Before implementing CA’s Unicenter Desktop DNA, we had to disrupt our end users whenever we had to perform a desktop upgrade,” said Joe Loobeek, lead IS analyst at United Defense Industries, Inc., which designs and manufactures vehicles and artillery for the U.S. Department of Defense. “With Unicenter Desktop DNA r11, we can manage and migrate all unique end-user information, while executing upgrades faster and more cost effectively — minimizing disruptions to our business.”

New features and benefits of Unicenter Desktop DNA r11 include:

*More efficient, incremental capture of users’ PC information.

*Maintenance of critical file information for compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory mandates.

*Remote troubleshooting and restoring of user PC information.

*Alternative Apache web server and Network Appliance server storage options.

*Improved preservation of desktop look and feel, including screen resolution and icons.

This new release demonstrates CA’s ongoing commitment to leadership in the desktop management market. Unicenter Desktop DNA is part of CA’s broader desktop management portfolio, which includes solutions for software distribution, asset management, patch management and remote control.

“With Unicenter Desktop DNA, CA is providing customers with a scalable, streamlined solution for automating their time-consuming manual migration processes,” said Jacob Lamm, senior vice president of Unicenter Desktop Management at CA. “This latest release adds the functionality necessary for customers to achieve regulatory compliance during OS upgrades, PC replacement and desktop recovery — while further reducing their total cost of PC ownership.”

Pricing for Unicenter Desktop DNA starts at $22 per node for 100 nodes, with volume pricing available. The solution is sold through CA’s direct and indirect sales channels, as well as its online store (http://ca.com/store).
