Windows Genuine Advantage 1.0 Goes Live
Microsoft Corp. announced the transition of the Windows(R) Genuine Advantage (WGA) pilot to a version 1.0 launch with worldwide availability. WGA is part of Microsoft's ongoing commitment to protecting its customers from software counterfeiting and to helping support partners through education, engineering, and enforcement of policies and laws. WGA, designed to differentiate the value of genuine Windows-based software from counterfeit software, enables customers to enjoy the capabilities they expect, provides them with confidence that their software is authentic, and delivers ongoing system improvements, including approximately $450 in software offerings available only to genuine users.
Intel To Build New 300 mm Wafer Factory In Arizona
Intel Corporation announced plans to build a new 300-mm wafer fabrication facility at its site in Chandler, Ariz. The new factory, designated Fab 32, will begin production of leading-edge microprocessors in the second half of 2007 on 45 nanometer process technology. Construction on the $3 billion project is set to begin immediately.
Novell Validates High Performance Computing Stack on Linux
Novell announced an integrated, tested and validated solution for high performance computing. Based on the HP BladeSystem solution, SUSE(TM) Linux Enterprise Server from Novell, and additional components from Novell(R) and HP partners, the solution constitutes the first high performance computing (HPC) offering under Novell's Validated Configuration Program, launched earlier this year. As a result, customers can now to take full advantage of high performance computing on Linux, making it easier to deploy a complex, clustered Linux-based infrastructure with a flexible, fully tested, fully integrated solution backed by Novell and HP.
Seagate Ships More Than 150 Million Award-Winning Barracuda 7200-rpm Hard
Continuing its leadership as the hard disc drive of choice around the world, Seagate Technology today announced that it has reached the 150 million mark in unit shipments of its Barracuda 7200-rpm family of hard drives.
