Panasonic Launches Online Video Resource For Pet Lovers

Panasonic announced the launch of – an online community and resource for pet lovers to share and watch their “furry friend” videos, communicate with other animal lovers, and view pet articles, advice and even animals available for adoption. According to the 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, more than 63 percent of U.S. households own a pet, and Panasonic highlights “PetCam” as an application available on its network cameras, allowing consumers to monitor their pets from a computer or mobile phone.

“Pets always have been an important part of the family, and Panasonic recognizes that this community could benefit from products and services that fit their lifestyles and needs,” said Bill Taylor, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company, Vice President, Communications Solutions Group. “We want pet owners to know there are technologies available from Panasonic that will provide peace of mind when they are away from their homes. And by combining Panasonic’s network camera and, we offer the perfect solution for the pet community to share and preserve these precious moments.”

When visiting, pet enthusiasts can upload their pet videos for the world to enjoy and each month one clip will be featured on the homepage. Also available on is a live video feed to animals available for adoption at Common Sense for Animals, a no-kill shelter in New Jersey. The live video also is available at, a result of Panasonic installing network cameras and putting the PetCam application into action. Panasonic also will be giving a grant to Common Sense for Animals to support the shelter and its mission to find pets homes where they will have the potential to become a friend and companion to a loving family.

“We’re thrilled by Panasonic’s generosity to donate their PetCams, because seeing is believing – and with the help of live video, potential pet adopters can view the animals needing a loving family, all before even making a trip to the shelter,”” said Dr. Robert Blease, President of Common Sense for Animals and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. “Also, PetCam is a much-needed tool for observing animals at home, when they are not being influenced by human activity. This type of video is extremely valuable for owners and animal professionals to learn what changes may need to be made to encourage positive animal behavior.”
