Adobe Acrobat flaw fixed

The Acrobat 8.1.1 Professional and Standard update addresses a vulnerability involving Windows XP and Internet Explorer 7 that could allow a maliciously crafted document to cause the execution of code leading to a takeover of the system.

“Adobe will be providing an update to Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and Acrobat 7.0.9 at a later date,” company officials said.

The 8.1.1 update also addresses various non-security issues relating to PDF forms and to OCR of Japanese text. It also provides additional stability.

The update is applicable to Acrobat Professional, Standard and 3D.

A separate update for Adobe Reader for Windows delivers the security, PDF forms and stability improvements.

Adobe Reader 8.1.1 update for Mac OS X contains the PDF forms and stability improvements.

Individuals responsible for managing their own systems may find it simplest to use the Check for Updates feature of the Adobe applications rather than manually downloading and installing the updates.
