Taiwan based personal computer maker Acer has announced that they are soon going to launch their own range of smartphones.

The company is planning to showcase this new range at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.

Personal computer maker Apple has their iPhone. HP too has some smartphone models in their range (iPAQ). Dell would now remain the only major PC maker to not have a presence in this segment.

Acer had acquired a mobile phone company E-Ten last year. This company was a little known player in the segment but Acer is likely to benefit from their existing technology in this market.

The company is likely to launch Windows Mobile based smartphones. Huawei is another hardware company which has announced their plans to launch a phone powered by Google Android platform in this upcoming event.
